Drosophila

Drosyphylls are members of the mayfly family. We find them on moist surfaces but also in fermented foods such as:

  • Ripe fruits
  • Rotten vegetables
  • Waste disposal sites
  • Wine residues

Their size ranges from 3.1 – 5.1 mm. Their color is brownish yellow or brownish black. When female dewdrops breed, they lay about 500 white eggs. These eggs will hatch within 24 to 30 hours. Adult dewdrops can cover long distances. For example they can travel 10km in 24 hours.

We usually observe a significant increase in their number during the summer and autumn

Dew leaves are divided into the following 2 categories

Drain Fly -Psychoda sp.

This particular species is strongly attracted to places where there is rotting food and other organic waste, drains or polluted shallow water. Their reproduction can be very intense in gelatinous bacterial membranes that we will find forming in drains, septic tanks, etc.

Fruit flies – Fruits Fly

Fruit flies are one of the most well-known species, especially in our country. They are usually attracted to sweet liquids that are in the process of fermentation. These liquids are usually found in ripe fruit but also in the remains of soft drink bottles. We will also find them in waste that decomposes in bins, but also in dirty facilities (sewers, etc.)

Although it sounds like an innocent species, it is not. Fruit flies have been implicated in the transmission of the E. Coli virus.

To combat dew leaves, we choose residual spraying in intractable areas after a very good and thorough cleaning.
